Flight CANCELLED by British Airways without notice or refund

I’ve been on the phone with British Airways for over two hours this morning (currently on hold). Last night (right before bed, unfortunately) I went on the BA website to check on our flights for our 20th wedding anniversary trip to Europe. They didn’t show our return flight. They were closed, so I couldn’t call at that time. I got up this morning and called. It seems there was a flight change on our leg home from Venice to Heathrow which would have caused us to miss our flight from London to San Jose. So they CANCELLED both flights home and we were left with nothing. And… get this one… they didn’t even notify us. Now they’re "checking to see what’s left,” according to the ticket agent. They have no explanation for any of it. Now, the only flights leaving the same day require leaving our Venice AirBnB at about 3:am in order to catch our flight to London. And, by the way, they didn’t credit us for the cancelled flights, they just cancelled our flights, kept our money and left us with nothing but “I’m sorry," and no compensation whatsoever. I've already escalated to several managers, asked for better seats, but they've offered nothing.

I don’t want to hang up after being on the phone so long.

I just got off the phone after 2 hours, 38 minutes. We have flights and seat assignments - the bare minimum. My husband just looked up our flight and seat assignment from Heathrow to San Jose and we're in the back of the aircraft. Far less than what we started with when we booked this flight 10 months ago. If anyone has tried and true recommendations of what we can do at this point, please let me know.

I’m so disappointed and frustrated.
